Hi welcome to the bare footing page ! I will share with you our journey.Mark has been bare foot since I purchased him in 2000, I began to experiment with bare foot trimming after I had problems with having to "finish" trimming him after the farrier did. I tried several farriers but had problems with cracking, thrush and deep fissures on his heels.I watched barefoot trimming demos at Equine Affaire and returnig the horse back to his natural hoof formation and use made so much sense to me. As I began to practice I got online with the web site The Horses Hoof and watched the video on trimming with power tools, I quickly trained Mark to accept this and our hoof trimming world opened up! Fairly quickly the hoof cracks disapeared the thrush was getting better and finaly the deep heel fissure totaly went away. Mark now has perfectly sound and healthy hooves, I can trail ride him for a solid week 8to 12 miles a day and over gravel rock and mud with no problems. These methods have worked for all my horses including my husbands Q horse Doc who had horrible tender feet when we bought him.
