Windfall Farm is home to my equine partner Mark, who is a registerd Percheron Draft and American Warmblood Stallion.
My goal at Windfall Farm is to breed for soundness, correct conformation excellent temperament and trainability, this has produced large athletic horses with good bone, strong hooves, above average intelligence, kind dispositions, flowing correct forward movement and eye appeal. After researching the different draft breeds, the Percheron Stallion “Mark” was my choice. Mark passes his wonderful temperament and intelligence to his offspring, along with his athletic ability. He is a Draft Stallion that not only adds size and bone but proven athletic ability, and as an added plus he has a very refined head that adds beauty to the cross, all of his offspring have exceptionally pretty heads for American Warmblood draft crosses.
Warm blood simply distinguishes this type of horse from the “cold bloods” (draft horses) and the “hot bloods” (Thoroughbreds, Arabians, etc.) Sport horse refers to the intended use of the breed, as a competitive and recreational horse for the major international equestrian disciplines of dressage, jumping, three day event and driving. Most warm blood breeds are continuing to evolve. In fact, they are not “breeds” in the sense that Thoroughbreds, Arabians, Morgans and Saddlebreds are breeds. Warmbloods do not have closed stud books. Other breeds are often introduced to the gene pool to reap the benefits of hybrid vigor, and to speed and improve the evolutionary process of attaining the breeding goal.
This is where the American Warmblood has an advantage. Other warmbloods have originated from certain regions of different counties. In our country we have horses from all these regions, so our breeders are able to “blend the best to the best”. To qualify as an American Warmblood, each horse must be inspected by a judge and achieve a passing score to qualify for registration. Scoring is judged on movement, disposition & temperament, and conformation. Mark is a registered American Warmblood breeding stallion, several of his get have qualified and are registered with the American Warmblood Society and are doing very well in Eventing and Dressage.
